Helsinki Mills acquires the business operations of Hirvelän Kaurapaahtimo
Helsinki Mills, the Finnish family-owned company behind the Myllärin brand, is expanding its product portfolio by acquiring the business operations of Hirvelän Kaurapaahtimo on 1 September 2026.
Hirvelän Kaurapaahtimo is a 60-year-old company based in Kangasala, Finland, producing a range of grain-based products. Its best-known products include Hirvelän Kaurakuituinen, Kaurakaakao and Uunitalkkuna.
– The acquisition is an excellent fit with our strategy and complements our existing business. It broadens our offering, creates new opportunities for further processing of grain and supports our goal of profitable growth, says Niklas Kumlin, CEO of Helsinki Mills.
The acquisition will expand Helsinki Mills’ portfolio into new product categories and complement its grain processing expertise with Hirvelä’s long-standing experience in grain roasting. This creates new opportunities for developing higher value-added products and helps meet the growing demand for high-fibre products.
Helsinki Mills’ sales and distribution channels will provide opportunities to expand the distribution of Hirvelä’s oat products in retail, the B2B sector and export markets. At the same time, Hirvelä’s products and production methods will complement Helsinki Mills’ existing portfolio and expertise.
Following the change of ownership, production of Hirvelä products will continue as before in Kangasala, and deliveries to customers will continue as normal. The employees of Hirvelän Kaurapaahtimo will transfer to Helsinki Mills as existing employees.
