Sustainability Report brings together our sustainability actions in 2025

As a Finnish family-owned company with more than 90 years of history, we take a long-term view and want to do our part to ensure that the Finnish food chain remains viable for future generations.

Our sustainability work is built around three cornerstones: the environment, procurement, and people and society. Our overarching commitment is to provide healthy and sustainable plant-based food solutions for different diets.

Here are a few highlights from our 2025 Sustainability Report.

Environment – towards a more sustainable food system

Most of the climate impact of our operations originates in primary production. This is why we launched our own Farming Programme in 2022. Its aim is to reduce emissions by developing farming methods, improving soil health and increasing crop yields.

In 2025, we assessed the carbon footprint of oats and wheat produced in accordance with Farming Programme 2.0 for the first time. Based on the promising results, we will expand the monitoring in the coming years.

We also continued our work to improve energy efficiency. Our Vaasa production facility joined the national Energy Efficiency Agreement, committing us to improve our energy efficiency by more than 11% by the end of 2035.

Thanks to an upgrade to the backup power system at the Vaasa bioenergy plant, we can now use renewable fuel oil instead of conventional fuel oil in the event of a disruption. The change reduced emissions from our own energy production by more than 70%.

In addition, all our production facilities have used 100% renewable electricity with guarantees of origin since 2010.

Procurement – sustainable raw materials

Almost all the raw materials we use are renewable natural resources: cereals and other plant-based ingredients. In 2025, all the cereals we processed were Finnish, and 99% of all the raw materials we used were of domestic origin.

We also aim for environmentally sustainable and recyclable solutions in our choice of packaging materials. We began the transition to FSC-certified cardboard in 2023, and in 2025, 98% of the cardboard used in our cardboard and paper packaging was FSC-certified.

All our suppliers are committed to our Code of Ethics.

People and society – a healthy person and a healthy lifestyle

As a Finnish family-owned company, we employ around 100 people in Järvenpää, Vaasa and Närpiö. Last year, we paid EUR 186,000 in income taxes and invested EUR 755,000.

We want to provide our employees with a safe, supportive and equal working environment. In 2025, our employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS), which measures employees’ willingness to recommend Helsinki Mills as a workplace, increased from 12 to 25.

In 2025, 41% of Myllärin consumer products carried the Heart Symbol. The Heart Symbol indicates that a product is a nutritionally better choice within its product category.

We participate in three Yrityskylä learning environments, where a total of nearly 20,000 sixth-graders learn working-life and financial skills every year. At the mill's booth, young people learn how the food chain works.

Our sustainability work looks far into the future. Together with our value chain, our goal is to build a pathway that enables emission reductions in line with the Paris Agreement by 2034. In the same year, our family-owned company will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
